Injured:

Delta Flight 4819 had 80 passengers aboard and at least 18-21 injured, exact numbers are unknown. A child was also injured during the crash but has been reported to be in good condition currently. Some of the injured were reported to have suffered back sprains, head injuries, anxiety and nausea, and vomiting due to the fuel exposure. All injured personnel have been released from the local hospitals.

Details:

The flight was cleared by air traffic controllers to land as the stiff winds blew over Toronto’s Pearson Airport. One person commented the environment was like tundra weather, snow, and ice had coated the tarmac and the powerful were caught on video. Meteorologists who had reviewed the crash said that Toronto was experiencing snow blowing when the accident occurred as well as the visibility was reduced to only six miles. The winds were up to 37 miles per house and the temperature had dropped far below 17 degrees Fahrenheit. The Toronto Airport Fire Chief Todd Aitken said that at the time of the crash, the airport runway was dry and there were no crosswind conditions. CBS Mornings was told that the flight crew was an experienced group that was already familiar with the intense winter weather coming from Toronto.

Survivors Encounters:

The survivors of the plane crash described being on the plane, saying how the ceiling became the floor, hanging from their seats like bats, and some passengers were even covered in jet fuel. Flight attendants helped passengers out of the open exit doors along with urging people to leave their personal belongings in the plane.

Aftermath:

Due to this plane crash, Toronto Pearson International temporarily shut down all five of its runways which caused delays and multiple flights to be diverted to nearby airports. The two runways that Delta’s plane crashed into will stay closed for several days as investigators are analyzing the scene trying to get down to the cause. Currently, there is no determined cause of this crash.

Lawsuits:

There have been two lawsuits to come out of this accident, one from a Texas resident and another one from a Minneapolis resident claiming that the crash occurred due to the flight crew’s “recklessness and gross negligence” and “inadequate training and supervision” from Delta. Both of the lawsuits have been filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia and the U.S. District Court of Minnesota. While the lawsuits were filed this past week after Delta offered the 76 passengers on the Endeavor Air flight $30,000 apiece, with no strings attached, and does not affect rights.
